About Us

The Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA) was established in 1978 under the auspices of the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO). It was the first regional centre established by AALCO in Asia to provide institutional support as a neutral and independent venue for the conduct of domestic and international arbitration proceedings in Asia.

Pursuant to an agreement between the Government of Malaysia and AALCO, the Government of Malaysia supported the establishment of a regional centre for commercial arbitration in Kuala Lumpur and agreed to provide the facilities for the establishment and functioning of such a centre. The Government of Malaysia has also accorded KLRCA independence and certain privileges and immunities for the purposes of executing its functions as an international institution.

Administered by a Director under the supervision of the Secretary General of AALCO, KLRCA is a non-profit non-governmental international arbitral institution that adopts the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules with modifications, i.e. The Rules for Arbitration of the Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre for Arbitration (KLRCA Rules).

KLRCA’s new logo is its acronym KLRCA, with an emphasis on the letter ‘A’, depicted as a triangle with a high peak to resemble KLRCA’s high level of commitment, achievement, stability and reliability as a world-class dispute resolution systems provider. KLRCA’s new tagline, “Regional Resolution, Global Solution”, reflects the centre’s commitment towards the promotion of arbitration with a view to fair resolution of disputes through the adoption of fast-paced, cost-saving and fair procedures by its panel of arbitrators and the efficient enforcement of domestic and international arbitration awards.
